Fresh Start, 2020 / by Caroline Rothwell Gerstein

The name of my company, CARO, comes from my nickname, given to me by a great jazz player and friend. It means dear, beloved, or valued and it means the world to me. It’s my ethos and Caro was my story that I told for 15+ years. I created from scratch with just a dream, a passion and preparedness to grow. Yet in 2020, Caro was ready to tell a different story, to embrace its maturity and took a new form.

Timing is everything, and my timing couldn’t have been better. Taking Caro back to its essence with a heightened focus on self-expression and the earth (and its people), and a step away from the mainstream fashion. Intended as a “fresh start” for many, the news was released about the virus just at the close of first quarter, and we followed the orders, closed up stores and offices, made our way home and settled in, and subsequently… into ourselves.

Living in a forced hibernation, we stopped going out to eat, sending our children to school, taking meetings, and traveling. Instead we literally went “in” resulting in what the world is experiencing now- a total re-examination of life, purpose, work, and self. What have you discovered?

Some keys to success for me include: refocusing the efforts, restoring relevance to authenticity, refresh the experience, less talk/take action, maintain trust and relationships, and align with those with shared vision and goals to create change.

Caro has been a life journey. 2020 is the return to the protection of the planet and our own unique self-expression. I look at my past for clues to this new frontier we are embarking on; my background and studies in environmental politics; having written for businesses and designers; telling their stories, and broadcasting to audiences. Where are you in this journey?

If you are like me, you find yourself right where you least expected and that is exactly where you need to be. Today, Caro is now back to how it began, with me. Just me and a network of beautiful relationships, valuable connections, creative talents, and needed resources - and ready for this new world filled with hope and opportunity. Also, I am enjoying that I have this time now to post to my own Caro blog, something I have wanted to do for many years.

I wish you great health and abundance. And let’s all keep telling our beautiful stories.

With love,

Caroline
