Now more than ever, connection is of utmost importance. As brands, we are no longer selling a product or service, but instead a connection, a relationship, and a little bit of magic. Although it is unfortunate that we are still mostly prohibited from interacting with our customers face to face, we are also very lucky to have so many digital mediums in which we are able to replace that connection. The tricky part is knowing how to use them.

Social media platforms like Instagram create a very strong comparison culture that even the strongest brands and people have a hard time not engaging in. It takes intention and a cogniscent effort to focus on yourself and what you’re doing. Falling victim to comparison is what makes your brand just another one of the millions on social platforms. If you don’t focus wholeheartedly on your brand’s personality, it is very easy to find yourself writing copy and posting content that are extensions of your Instagram feed versus an extension of yourself and your brand identity.

Your uniqueness is your secret weapon, not your downfall.

Making your brand human on social media isn’t a simple task, but it is an easy one. There are so many different ways to accomplish it and in the nature of staying true to yourself and your brand - everyone’s strategy will more often than not, look a little different. And that is okay!

Share your values

Be vulnerable and share your struggles: The days of Instagram being just a highlight reel of all of life’s greatest successes are over.

Talk to your customers instead of at them

Highlight your employees: You love your brand because you know the human beings and the stories behind it. Let your customers in on that! Your audience will feel immediately more connected

The content you post to your brand’s social platforms should be the type of content you look for when you yourself go to follow a brand, influencer, etc. If nobody is posting the kind of content you want to see then you have found yourself a whole in the social market and you should go after it. Don’t worry about it being too niche or not interesting enough. Chances are if it is content you want to see - a lot of other people want to see it to.
